Wisdom Tooth Removal in Surrey, BC

Wisdom teeth — the last molars to emerge, usually in your late teens or early twenties — often cause problems when there isn’t enough room for them to grow in properly. At Smile Plus Dental Clinic on 152A Street in Surrey, we perform both simple and surgical wisdom tooth extractions in a calm, comfortable setting. Our team takes the time to assess your X-rays, explain your options, and make sure you understand exactly what to expect before we begin. We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and most major insurance plans.

What to Expect During Your Wisdom Tooth Removal

1- Consultation & Examination
The dentist evaluates your wisdom teeth with X-rays to assess their position and determine if extraction is needed.
2- Anesthesia
Local anesthesia is applied to numb the area. Sedation options may be available for a more comfortable experience.
3- Tooth Removal
The dentist carefully extracts the tooth. If impacted, a small incision may be made, and the tooth may be sectioned for easier removal.
4- Stitching (if needed)
In some cases, dissolvable stitches are placed to aid healing.
5- Recovery & Aftercare
You’ll receive post-operative care instructions, including pain management, swelling reduction, and diet recommendations for a smooth recovery.

Wisdom Tooth Removal Cost in Surrey

wisdom tooth extraction

The cost of wisdom tooth removal depends on whether the tooth is erupted or impacted, how many teeth need to come out, the complexity of the extraction, and whether sedation is required. We provide a full cost estimate before treatment begins so there are no surprises.

Most dental insurance plans cover a portion of wisdom tooth removal when medically necessary. We also accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), which may cover eligible patients partially or in full. Contact Smile Plus on 152A Street or book a consultation to get an accurate quote for your case.

When Do Wisdom Teeth Need to Come Out?

Not everyone needs their wisdom teeth removed. But when they don’t have enough room to grow in properly, they can cause problems that affect the rest of your mouth.

We recommend removal when wisdom teeth are impacted and unable to fully emerge, causing pain, swelling, or repeated infections, pushing against neighbouring teeth and affecting alignment, difficult to clean and increasing the risk of decay or gum disease, or causing damage to the surrounding bone.

In some cases there are no obvious symptoms — which is why we check the position of your wisdom teeth during routine checkups and monitor them with X-rays over time.

FAQs About Wisdom Tooth Removal

Does wisdom tooth removal hurt?
The procedure itself is done under local anaesthesia, so you should feel pressure but no pain. Some soreness and swelling for 2–3 days afterward is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
Most patients feel back to normal within 3–5 days. Full healing of the socket takes a few weeks. Following your aftercare instructions — especially avoiding straws and hard foods — significantly speeds up recovery.
Eligible patients may have wisdom tooth extractions partially or fully covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Smile Plus accepts CDCP — contact us to confirm your coverage before your appointment.
Not always. If your wisdom teeth have fully erupted, are properly aligned, and can be kept clean, removal may not be necessary. Our dentists will assess your X-rays and recommend extraction only when it’s in your best interest.
