CDCP Renewals are Open

CDCP Renewals are open for the 2026-2027 benefit year from April 15 to June 1, 2026. Your current coverage is effective until June 30, 2026, but will end on that date if you do not renew in time.

As a CDCP member, you must renew your coverage every year to confirm you still meet the eligibility requirements.

Renewing your Coverage after the Renewal Period

If you do not renew by the deadline, your coverage ends on June 30, 2026. You can submit a new application later, but:

  • There will be a gap in your coverage until it is approved again.
  • Dental care received during this gap will not be covered or reimbursed.

Who Can Renew:

To renew your CDCP coverage, you must meet all four requirements:

No Access to Private Dental Insurance

This includes coverage through:

  • Employer or family member benefits (including health and wellness accounts).
  • Pension plans (including federal, provincial, and territorial government employer pension plans).
  • Professional or student organizations.
  • Insurance purchased by you, a family member, or through a group plan.

Note: This applies even if you decide not to take it, have to pay a premium, or do not use it.

Retirement Exception: You may be eligible if you’re retired and you opted out of your dental insurance through your pension plan before December 11, 2023, and cannot opt back in.

Tax Returns

You and your spouse or common-law partner must have filed your tax returns in Canada for the previous year.

Income and Residency

Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 and you are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

If you Have Dental Coverage Through Government Social Programs

If you have coverage through a provincial, territorial, or federal government social program, you could still qualify. Your coverage will be coordinated between the plans to avoid duplications or gaps.

Eligibility Review

You must attest that you do not have access to dental insurance. The CDCP verifies this by reviewing tax records (T4/T4A) submitted by employers or pension plan administrators.

  • If you provide false information, you and your family may be removed from the plan.
  • If found ineligible, you will be required to repay any amounts claimed for services.

What you Need to Renew

You will need to confirm or update the following for each applicant:

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • CDCP member ID
  • Full name and Date of birth
  • Home and mailing address
  • List of government dental coverage (if applicable)
  • Confirmation that your previous year’s tax returns were filed

How to Apply for the CDCP Program?

Applying for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is simple. If you live in Surrey and want to access affordable dental care through CDCP, just follow these steps:

  1. Check Your Eligibility

Make sure you meet all the CDCP criteria. This includes having no private dental insurance and a family income under $90,000.

  1. Know When You Can Apply

Applications are now open for seniors aged 65 and over, individuals with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate, and children under 18. All other eligible Canadians will be able to apply later in 2025.

  1. Prepare Your Documents

You’ll need your Social Insurance Number (SIN), your most recent tax return, and basic personal information.

  1. Apply Online or by Phone

Visit the official Government of Canada website or call the CDCP helpline to submit your application.

Once you’re approved, you can book your appointment at Smile Plus and start receiving dental care covered under the CDCP. For more information and to apply, visit the official Canadian Dental Care Plan page.

Who Is Eligible for CDCP?

To qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) in Smile Plus, you must meet all four of the following requirements:

✔ You do not have access to private dental insurance

✔ You have filed a recent Canadian tax return (this also applies to your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable)

✔ Your total family income is under $90,000 per year

✔ You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes

Right now, applications are open for seniors aged 65 and older, children under 18, and individuals who hold a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate. Other eligible groups will be able to apply starting in 2025. If you’re already covered under a government dental program, you may still qualify. CDCP will work alongside existing coverage to make sure your care is fully coordinated without overlap.

How much will CDCP cover?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is designed to reduce out-of-pocket dental costs for eligible patients in Surrey. The amount covered depends on your adjusted family net income, with coverage ranging from 40% to 100% of CDCP-approved rates.

CDCP Coverage Based on Income:

  • Under $70,000 – 100% of eligible dental care costs are covered
  • $70,000 to $79,999 – 60% is covered, and you pay the remaining 40%
  • $80,000 to $89,999 – 40% is covered, and you pay the remaining 60%

What Is a Co-Payment?

A co-payment is the portion of the cost that you’re responsible for, based on your income level. CDCP only covers services at the rates it sets, so you may be responsible for:

✔ The difference if your dentist charges more than CDCP’s set rates

✔ Any procedures that are not covered under the program

If you qualify, CDCP can significantly lower your dental expenses. For full details or help understanding how much your care will cost, feel free to contact us at Smile Plus. We’re here to help you make the most of your benefits.
