A cavity is a decayed area on a tooth. Tooth decay is very common and should be addressed as early as possible to help prevent more significant issues. Many factors can contribute to tooth decay, including diet, tooth location, oral health habits, dry mouth, and more. In order to get rid of a cavity, a dentist must remove the decayed part of a tooth and replace it with a filling.

The process of cavity filling at Smile Plus in Surrey is straightforward and painless, thanks to our modern equipment and compassionate care. So, how exactly do you get rid of a cavity? Once a cavity forms, the usual treatment is for a dentist to remove the decayed part of the tooth and replace it with a filling.
To do this, our dentists at Smile Plus will begin by injecting a local anesthetic into your gum to numb the area surrounding the tooth that needs to be filled.
Once your tooth has been numbed, most patients feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. Next, your dentist will use a specialized drill instrument to completely remove the cavity from the tooth, clean the remaining tooth, affix the filling into the area where the cavity was, and then shape the filling to fit perfectly with your tooth. Then they will polish it, and you’re done. Visit our dentists at Smile Plus for a comprehensive consultation.
Composite fillings consist of a resin compound that is pigmented to resemble teeth. They are a great option for prominent regions since they mix in perfectly with your natural teeth. To provide a solid binding and a natural look, the resin is layered into the cavity and cured with a specific light.
In molars, where chewing pressure is greatest, amalgam fillings—also referred to as silver fillings—are very strong and perfect. Silver, mercury, and tin are among the several metals that make them up. Amalgam fillings, despite their silvery appearance, are an affordable and well-received treatment option.
The strength and visual attractiveness of ceramic fillings, which are made of porcelain, are well-known. If properly cared for, these fillings may withstand stains and survive for many years. When looking for a long-lasting and realistic-appearing dental repair, they are a great solution for patients.
